It’s Not Just You.

Sharing Busts Stigma

Amanda Seyfried
OCD
“I’m on Lexapro, and I’ll never get off of it,” Seyfried told Allure. “I don’t see the point of getting off of it. Whether it’s placebo or not, I don’t want to risk it. And what are you fighting against? Just the stigma of using a tool? A mental illness is a thing that people cast in a different category [from other illnesses], but I don’t think it is. It should be taken as seriously as anything else.”
Naomi Osaka
Anxiety and Depression
“The truth is that I have suffered long bouts of depression since the US Open in 2018,” Osaka wrote on Twitter, who also referenced having social anxiety. As she wrote in Time, “I do hope that people can relate and understand it’s O.K. to not be O.K., and it’s O.K. to talk about it. There are people who can help, and there is usually light at the end of any tunnel.”
Selena Gomez
Bipolar Disorder
Gomez got her bipolar diagnosis in 2018. “I wanted to know everything about it, and it took the fear away,” she said on Miley Cyrus’s Instagram Live show. She later told Elle, “I felt a huge weight lifted off me when I found out. I could take a deep breath and go, ‘Okay, that explains so much.’”
Lizzo
Depression
“The day I released ‘Truth Hurts’ was probably one of the darkest days I’ve had. I remember thinking, ‘If I quit music now, nobody would notice. This is my best song ever, and nobody cares,’” Lizzo told People. “A lot of people rallied; they were like, ‘Just keep going because this is the darkest before the dawn.‘”
Billie Eilish
Depression
“Depression has controlled sort of like everything in my life,” Eilish said in an Apple Music 1 interview. She also told Rolling Stone: “Kids use my songs as a hug. Songs about being depressed or suicidal or completely just against-yourself—some adults think that’s bad, but I feel that seeing that someone else feels just as horrible as you do is a comfort.”

Anxiety, Depression, and Body Dysmorphia

“My anxiety was so bad that I had to keep quitting jobs because I physically could not work,” Reinhart told W. “I felt like my world was crashing.... I was like, ‘My mental health is suffering, and it is making me physically ill.’”  The actress also told Teen Vogue that she's dealt with depression since middle school, and recently spoke about having body dysmorphia on Dr. Daniel Amen's YouTube show, "Scan My Brain."
